Racing Santander attacking midfielder Sergio Canales is in the final stages of contract negotiations with Real Madrid for a deal that will tie the 18-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu for the next six years, As reported by Spanish sports daily AS. Canales is due for talks with Racing president Francisco Pernia and Madrid director general Jorge Valdano today to thrash out the last minor details of the contract, which will likely be signed by the player next week.
As part of the deal, Canales is expected to play his first year on loan at Racing. The contract also includes a number of financial incentives relating to matches played, titles won and goals scored. After the first year, the contract also reportedly contains a clause that says, should Madrid deem it necessary to loan out the player for an additional second or third year, the player will only be able to go to Racing Santader to complete his development.
