Gonzalo Higuain was reportedly set to be out for three weeks after his injury against Mallorca, and today 'El Pipita' ramped up his training regime in the hope of returning in time for Madrid's match against Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor.
The day of the next match will mark the three weeks estimated for Higuain to recover, but the drawback is that should the Argentine make an early comeback into the squad list, he will not have the time to train with the rest of the squad.
With Madrid five points behind Barcelona and missing star player Cristiano Ronaldo through suspension, this weekend's match against Depor represents a lot to Los Blancos and they cannot afford to allow the five-point deficit to stretch further.
Despite his hopes of returning early, Higuain will not force himself into the squad if he has not completely recovered. Dutchman Rafael Van der Vaart, injured in the same match with a similar estimated period of recovery, will also attempt to make an early comeback into the squad.
